Above are the same type of shots of characters you would find in other drama genre based films.

Here are my character profiles for my two main characters in my film.

Here is a soundcloud of myself dicussing how my film has represented particular social groups. My film 'COMPULSION' has explored social groups such as disability and gender.

Above are shots of my two main characters in my film 'COMPULSION'.

What identities would I be interested to include in my year 13 film?

For my next film that I would be making next year I would be interested in exploring other identities such social class as I would find it interesting as a filmaker - how I would present different social classes to an audience. I would have to think clearly about how my actors would dress and how I would show through body language and gestures whether they were of a higher social class or not. I would also have to have more varied settings in which my characteres would live. And lastly I would have to think about accent (whether they spoke RP or with a rough accent). As there is so much to think about if I was to include this identity in my film I feel as though it would challenge me and would make me plan a lot in advance so I get the authentic feel and realism into my film, to engage my audience to the fullest.

2. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Here is a 'Breakfast Talk Show' where I dicuss how my film is going to be distriubted...

3. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Above is a soundcloud of me discussing what I have learnt from using Final-Cut-Pro to create my preliminary task.

Here is a mindmeister exploring what I have learnt as a filmaker in terms of sound, mise en scene, camera work and editing.

Here is an example of one of our lighting set ups. We used a blue gel on the main light to create a cold and sinister feel. Then we used normal home lights for a yellow glow to create brightness on the main subject we were filming. We then used a man made light that Josh made for extra light to focus on small detailed sections (for example- when Helen puts the tape round the gas pipe.

4. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Above is a Prezi regarding the pro's and con's to the research I have used whilst making my film.

Above is prezi regarding the pro's and con's of filming and editing software and equipment I used during the making of my film.

5. Who would be the audience for your media product?

What might you see in a 15 rated film?

  •   strong violence

  •  frequent strong language

  •   portrayals of sexual activity

  •   strong verbal references to sex

  •   sexual nudity

  •   brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence

  •   discriminatory language or behaviour

  •   drug taking

My film would therefore be of this rating due to the strong violence present during the scene where James is drugged and murdered in his own car, by Helen.

This would also be described as discriminatory behaviour as James is ill due to his OCD.

My Ideal Audience Member

A viewer who would find a woman being a villian interesting and enjoys violent films.

A viewer who does not care for visually effective films and care more about the storyline and the characters.

An intellegient viewer who would be interested in exploring the mind of someone who had OCD and would find this intellectually stimulating.

A viewer who is of the ages of 15 and above and enjoys the drama genre.

Above are the type of audiences that I would want to see my film. I think that my film has a wide demographic of teenagers who would enjoy the violence and romance within the film and would find the inside mind of OCD interesting to watch, if they did not know much about OCD. I also think my film would appeal to intelligent adults who would find this film interesting and different. Finally, the 'grey' demographic would find this film an intriguing watch as they probably would know about OCD as an illness and would find seeing it presented on screens visually captivating. The older demographic would also appreaciate the actors performance and the storyline.

What would my audience's interests be? what would they dress like? What type of entertainment would they be into?

My typical audience member would dress respectably and smartly due to their brightness and intelligence. Even if they were of the younger audience - they would still hold themselves with respect and class. They would enjoy films that are award winners and would find reviews an important factor if they were to see a film. I think other films they would enjoy are films such as 'Suffragette', '12 Years of Slave' and 'The Kings Speech'. All of these films deal with an interesting subject matter and are emotionally captivating and provoke much thought once the audience have viewed the film.

1. Showing realistic settings and characters that an audience can relate too

2. Portraying character development and showing their emotional journey

3. Including an emotive story that an audience will sympathise with

4. A story which includes conflict

5. Climax's and anti-climax's within the story to hold tension

6. A film which focuses on the acting and the characters within the film and not so much the visual effects

what are the conventions of the drama genre?

7. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?
6. How did you attract your audience?

I asked friends and family to view my opening sequence and give me feedback to take in consideration.

The main piece of feedback I got from the beginning of the sequence was that the short clips of seeing the protagonist was interesting and engaging as you wanted to see more and to keep watching to see what else was going to appear on screen. Another main thought was that the cinematography was liked and people found it interesting how we had tried to film everything very symmetrically to fit with James' OCD and how the film created an illusion that we were seeing the action through James' eyes.

The main concern that was felt with my audience was that it is quite slow when James eats his sandwich and they tend to lose focus. I am going to take on this point and think of editing techniques to make this more exciting to watch. This could possibly be done by making the scene faster by fast forwarding it.

The final point that was mentioned was that the background wind noise in the park scene sounded like thunder once it first was heard on screen. This is not the tone we were going for and possibly need to go and re record some outside sounds.

The survey monkey (found on the blog tab) was highly helpful as it gave my group indications of what was wanted by our audience.

The two main points that came up was about the colour grading and what the audience members want to focus on in the film.

Regarding the colour grading the audience wanted to see blue colour grading turning darker as the film progresses for that sinister creepy feel. We tried to stick to this during our film but due to the light in the locations we used we found this hard to stick too.

Regarding what the audience members wanted to focus on - it was pretty equal. They wanted to see just as much of James' OCD, the loves story and the back story of the heir loom. We took this on board and tried to tie in all of it within our opening sequence. As we are only producing the first 7 minutes of a film the heir loom story would not be as explored as the other themes within the film. Having been working on the edit I feel sure of myself that we have included both the OCD theme and the love story to fit with our audience's wants.

Feedback from Survey Monkey...

This is a video of myself analysing the opening sequence of 'Gone Girl'. I explore how this sequence shows it is of the drama genre and what ideas I have taken from this that I will be incorporating into my own film.

Here is an analysis of my film and a soundcloud to explore how we have fitted the drama genre.
